Cork flooring comes in a wide variety of colors, patterns and sizes that will be sure to fit any design tastes. The sky is virtually the limit as far as the design possibilities with cork floors. As with any flooring choice, however, the cost of the cork will determine just how far you can go with your design options.

Here is a look at some of the design options of cork flooring:

  • Tiles or planks? – Many years ago, cork flooring was only available in tiles that were a little more difficult to install and had to be secured with adhesives. Today cork flooring is available in tile form and in planks, much like laminate and hardwood. Many cork floor planks are easy to install because they are the tongue-and-groove variety that can be snapped in place. Decide which form of cork flooring will best suit the design tastes of your home. Cork tiles are available in many different sizes – 4" x 4", 8" x 8", 12" x 12", etc.
  • An endless array of color options await with cork – Cork floors come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. The color of cork flooring is achieved from baking the pieces in ovens, not from stains or dyes. This ensures that the color will last a long time. Cork flooring is available in traditional neutral colors like other flooring, but it is also available in shades like crème, terracotta, blue, black and many more. Just make sure that the color you choose will be a good fit with the furniture and design elements of your home.
  • Cork flooring offers a pattern for everyone – Because cork is made from tiny pieces of wood, it can be made into many different patterns to suit almost every design taste. You can find cork floors that are plain, with thin or wide mosaic patterns, vertical lines, horizontal lines, large and small dots…the pattern options are almost endless! With cork, you can be sure that your floor will look very different from your neighbor’s with all of the design and pattern options that are available.
  • Cork finishes can also help make your floor unique – In addition to the color and pattern options with cork flooring, there are also many different choices for the type of finish your floor can have. If you choose unfinished cork, you can add your own touch to your floor’s finish. Cork also comes in different finishes like matte polyurethane, gloss polyurethane and natural wax. Talk to a flooring professional to better understand your options for cork finishes.

Cork floors
When I was researching cork flooring information I found this blog and it was very helpful. I used the tongue and groove cork flooring option-the kind that just snaps together and I never thought it was going to be that easy. I have furniture protectors for my floors now just in case they make indentations in my cork. There are cork flooring pros and cons like any other floor but its an affordable floor as well as a durable and great looking floor as well. Cork floor care is also very easy, I usually just give it a good sweep with my broom and it does the trick.
