Waterproofing any basement is usually a high priority for most homeowners especially if your home is in a high rainfall or high water table area. While there are many ways you can do this, one cost–effective option is using epoxy paint. Epoxy, which has many uses as an adhesive, hardener or paint, is a thermosetting epoxide polymer sometimes known as polyepoxide. For different applications epoxy has different properties especially so when formulated to be used as a basement floor paint. In this application it is specially designed to harden, seal and waterproof basement floors. Epoxy paint forms a waterproof barrier which can prevent moisture from entering. It also adds stability to the floor because it hardens when setting, acting as a resin rather than paint. Another advantage is that it is flame resistant and so offers a degree of protection in case of a fire. Because of its amazing waterproofing properties, epoxy is often used to seal a swimming pool which makes it the perfect choice for a basement floor.

Epoxy paint is available in a range of attractive colors for aesthetic appeal. Application is relatively easy which could comfortably be handled by a DIY enthusiast. Setting takes a few hours. It can be applied to surfaces that have previously been sealed or painted provided the base coat is cleaned and scraped first to remove any loose areas. Epoxy, which is a low maintenance surface, is able to withstand most chemicals and is relatively stain proof.

I was thinking of changing the flooring on my basement. Yet it is hard for me to decide if I should go with tiles or wooden floors as basement can be very moistured during the winter time. Would wood be better or tiles can anyone help me decide this?
