waterproof mats?

My dog’s water from his water bowl always leaks through the mat below to the floor beneath. Are there mats that are safe for hardwood floors that are water proof?

I would use a rug that is not rubber or latex backed.  Make sure it's not abrasive on the backside either.  I put my dog's dished inside a small cat litter box that keeps and water from leaking through the mat.  Also, make the the mat is considered colorfast.
