Is it true that some cleaning products can cause my carpet to lose its stain resistance or hold dirt more easily?

Yes! Some cleaners will leave a residue on your carpet that will attract dirt.

Cleaning products can also cause it to lose stain resistance. Try Simple Green. It is supposed to help maintain your carpet's stain protection.
