Are stone floors waxed to maintain shine?

The general consensus is to avoid waxing stone floors. It will become a maintenance issue that will eventually lead to excessive wax buildup and possibly yellowing.

The previous owners of my house waxed the floors, and just like you said, they turned yellow. What can I do about it?  I believe they are slate tiles.

Hello islandgirl,

You should look into having a professional come out and apply a chemical stripper to remove the wax. If you want to do the job yourself, I would recommend using TileLab Heavy-Duty Cleaner and Stripper available at Home Depot as well as many tile distributers. Be sure to follow all safety instructions. Here is a link to the product:
