I would recommend a wood that is high on the Janka hardness scale such as Brazilian Walnut, Teak, or Cherry. Pay attention to how many layers of finish are used and what they are finished with. For example, a hardwood finished with 6 layers of urethane that have 3 layers impregnated with aluminum oxide will be more durable than one that only three layers of urethane with no aluminum oxide.
