When installing hardwood, where is the best starting point on the floor?

You should start from the straightest wall and install from there going in.

Just to add to ichiban's reccomendation, if you are installing a wide plank floor you may want to calculate the number of planks that it will take to cover the room and cut the first row to match up with the final row. This way you will have the same reveal on each wall.
