How do I know how big of an expansion gap I need to leave? I am installing engineered ash wood and I live in a pretty humid area.

RE: expansion gap
Every manufacturer requires a little different expansion space. Check the installation instructions that came with your floor to be sure. Usually a space between a quarter and a half an inch will do. For larger spaces, you'll need a half an inch minimum. Also, if you're covering a large space, expansion joints are usually required every 25 ft or so. Again, check your manufacturer's specific requirements to be sure.

RE: expansion gap
Ok thanks.  I'll double check my installation instructions but it sounds like 1/2" would be enough for me.
