My retailer recommended that I buy 10% extra tiles for the waste factor for ceramic tiles. Is that accurate? It seems like a lot.

This is not a lot depending on the size of the tile. It is always recommended that you have some tile set aside for repairs and replacement.

Yes, 10% is standard. Not only do you want to account for waste, but you also want to have leftover tiles for future repairs.

I agree. 10% is pretty standard. Although you could possible get away with 5% extra, you definetly want to have some leftover for future repairs. Tile products are often discontinued so you may not be able to purchase more in the future. Even if you were able to buy more later, it would be from a different batch and the colors might be slightly off.

Great Point! I retiled my bathroom 2 years ago and somehow a tile got chipped over the 2 years...I ran to the store to get a replacement and it was discontinued! Luckily I found some extras in the garage! That saved the day!
