This may be a dumb question, but: Does a floating floor really float about the subfloor?

RE: floating floor - does it really float? :)
It either floats on the subfloor or the underlayment. Not that it’s actually floating inches off the ground or anything, but it is not affixed to the ground Instead it is affixed to itself using a tongue and groove systems and is sometimes held down at the perimeter by the baseboard or other measures.
