Laminate is made of four layers – the backing or stabilizing layer, the core layer, the image layer, and the wear layer (in that order from the bottom up). It is constructed in one of 2 ways – direct pressure laminate where are 4 layers are infused with resins and bound together under high pressure and heat. The other method is high-pressure laminate where top and bottom layers are heated and pressurized individually, then bound to the core under higher heat and pressure than direct-pressure. High pressure is more durable than direct-pressure. Hope that answers your question.
