I was wondering - What makes tile so durable? Aren't they made of clay?

RE: What makes tile so durable?
Yes, ceramic and porcelain tiles are primarily made up of clay. Typically, what makes some tiles more durable than others has to do with two factors: the hardness of the glaze, and the density and porosity of the clay.

To add to this, ceramic is more porous than porcelain.
