I am buying vinyl tiles. Would it make sense that buying larger tiles and having less seams for moisture to leak into will make it easier to maintain having pets?

That makes sense, but if you are going for less seams you should do sheet vinyl.

If you are concerned with your pet scratching up the floor you might want to consider vinyl composition tile that comes in 12x12 size. Installed properly and sealed it should work well for you. If your pet does damage one area it will be easier to replace than sheet vinyl. Be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions when sealing the product.

StBernard, sorry I thought your concern was with your pet scratching the material. I think you will only find vinyl tiles in the 12x12 size.
