I am going to have laminate installed in my home, but I am worried about the hollow sound that some laminate has when you walk on it. I plan on buying a good quality underlayment. What do you recommend that will prevent that noise?

RE: hollow sounding laminate
Cork and foam underlayments are both great for use under laminate floors to stop that hollow sound that some laminates have. You can also purchase laminate flooring with an attached underlayment which will also help to reduce sound transmission. Hope that helps!

Rag Pad
The best sound deadening pad I've found is the thin rag pad (cloth - made of shreaded rags with a plastic membrane)
It also helps to be sure the floor is FLAT. Using roofing felt in layers to fill voids.

RE: hollow sounding laminate
thanks BuffaloChip I'll be sure to look into that. Is there a brand that you can recommend?
